New York State Thruway (WSYR-TV/AP) - Phase one of a three year construction project has wrapped up on a large stretch of the New York State Thruway west of Syracuse.
A five-mile segment of the two eastbound Thruway lanes between Exits 40 and 39 were scheduled to reopen Tuesday morning. The eastbound lanes were diverted to the westbound side for several months as the highway was rebuilt.
The westbound lanes along this stretch will return to their normal configuration by next Tuesday.
The $128 million reconstruction project will resume in mid-March, when work begins on a a third five-mile eastbound segment, from mile 289 to 294.
