Brewerton, New York (WSYR-TV) - It took firefighters a couple hours to put out a fire at an auto salvage facility in Brewerton this morning.
The fire started sometime before 4 AM at Copart on Zuk Pierce Road in Brewerton.
We’re told an off-duty firefighter spotted the fire and notified the fire department. When crews arrived they had a hard time getting to the fire because the property was surrounded by a high voltage electric fence. It also took fire crews about an hour to notify the owner so they could gain access to the site, because they had outdated contact information.
14 vehicles were damaged in the fire. 10 were destroyed.
It was a tough fire to fight because crews were dealing with vehicles that potentially had battery fluid and gas in them.
A cause of the fire has not been determined.
