Food for Thought: Dried figs

Dried figs are available all year round, and we've all had Fig Newtons, but this is the season for fresh figs -- and if you've never tried them, they're lusciously sweet, and good for you too.

Figs are a good source of potassium, a mineral that helps to control blood pressure.  They're also high in fiber, and a decent source of calcium, so give them a try. 

Ripe figs should be kept in the fridge, where they'll keep for about two days.
